BERNARD EUGENE TRAVIS, SR. and HELEN EUREVA WARD TRAVIS

BERNARD E. TRAVIS, SR, passed away on Tuesday, November 06, 2007. His one and only love, HELEN E. WARD TRAVIS, preceded him in death on Nov. 13, 2005. They were married on Dec. 20, 1940, in Topeka, Kansas. Bernard was born on Jan. 02, 1919, to Thomas Joseph Travis and Mable Cecilia Kroft Travis, both deceased. Helen was born on Sept. 24, 1919, to Raymond VanDyke Ward and Mabel Ailene McMaster Ward, both deceased.

Family was the most important thing to Bernard and Helen(Reva). They are survived by four children: Bernard Eugene Travis, Jr., Broken Arrow, OK, Karen Eureva Travis Levett, Hilltop Lakes, TX, Renee Elaine Travis Zeller, Plainview, TX, and Thomas Joe Travis, Topeka, KS, and their spouses: Barbara Travis, Tom Levett, Bruce Zeller, and Karen Travis, respectively. In addition, they are survived by nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Helen is also survived by a sister, Winona Johnson and husband Robert.

Bernard was a veteran of WW II, having served in the Army in Germany. After marrying, he and Helen lived in Topeka until 1952, when they moved to Maple Hill, KS. He retired from the Kansas Highway Department in Dec. 1980, and they moved to Mano MO, on Table Rock Lake. They moved back to Topeka in Sept, 2000. Helen worked several jobs while Bernard was overseas and throughout her life, but she was first and foremost a stay-at-home mother and wife.

Both Bernard and Helen were cremated and their family will gather at a future date in Mano, MO, to memorialize their lives. Memorial contributions may be made in their names to Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society, Hospice, or VA Hospital.
