Bernard M. "Barney" Roberts, 96, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2010.
Bernard was born April 15, 1914, in Shelbyville, KY; son of William and
Maude (Schooler) Roberts. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1933.
Bernard served during WWII in the US Army from 1942-1945. He was united in
marriage to Muriel Whitlow on March 15, 1947.
Bernard worked for Morrell's & Co., Roberts Coal and Wood, and Town &
Country Real Estate. He retired from Town & Country Real Estate after
twenty years of service.
Bernard was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He loved to bowl and golf. Bernard golfed at the Topeka Public Golf Course three times a week till the age of 90.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Robert) Smith, Hawley, TX; three grandchildren, Dione Jacques, James Anderson, and Aaron Anderson; and two great-grandchildren, Paiton Frazier and Marleigh Frazier
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Carol Ann Roberts, and sister, Mary Reeser.
A funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2010, at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Bernard will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 9, 2010, where the family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be directed to Disabled American Veterans.
