Bennett N. Berggren, 92, died March 6, 2008. He lived most of his adult life in Topeka, moving to Omaha, Nebraska, following the death of his wife, Betty, in December, 2006. Bennett was born January 24, 1916, the son of Gust and Ida (Anderson) Berggren. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and married Betty K. Morehead on May 21, 1944. He was a homebuilder in Topeka for over 30 years, and developer of several subdivisions in the Shawnee Heights area.
Bennett was a member of Crestview United Methodist Church, Topeka Evening Sertoma Club, and Topeka Homebuilders Association. He is survived by two sons, Calvin B. Berggren and wife, Susan, of Olathe; Allen C. Berggren of Golden, CO; daughter, Cheryl A. Schuster and husband, Mike, of Omaha, NE; and four grandchildren, Megan and Kevin Schuster, and Andrew and Rachel Berggren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Crestview United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Bennett will lie in state after 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Visitation will be from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
