Barbara C. (Koch) Porter, 84, of Topeka, went to be with her Savior on Wednesday, March 30, 2022.
She was born December 30, 1937, in Clay County, Kansas, the daughter of Roland and Thelma (Blake) Koch, who preceded her in passing. Barbara was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church on February 6, 1938 and confirmed on April 6, 1952. She attended the Eight Mile and Ten Mile one room school houses as a child and graduated from Clay Center High School in April 1956. After graduation, she attended the Brown Mackie Business School in Salina, Kansas. She also received two Bachelor Degree's from Washburn University in English and German Language.
Barbara served as a Court Manager for the U.S. Federal Bankruptcy Court. She retired on June 30, 1994 after 34 years.
She started quilting after retirement and made hundreds of quilts. She was a part of the quilt guild in Texas and Missouri. Barbara and Bill spent many winters in Florida and Texas. They also had a lake home at the Lake of the Ozarks for 23 years and enjoyed spending time there.
Barbara married William "Bill" G. Porter on May 2, 1959 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clay Center, Kansas. He preceded her in passing on September 28, 2020. Survivors include her children, Greg (Kenda) Porter and LaDeane Porter; six grandchildren, Cody (Amanda), Cory (Stephanie), Miranda (Michael), Michael (Vianei), Jordan (George) and Reagan (Brandon); five great-grandchildren, Abigail, Caleb, Blake, Hazel and Maeve with one great grandson on the way; and one brother, Dwight (Anne) Koch.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at St. John's Evangelical Church, 901 SW Filmore, Topeka, Kansas 66606. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church 901 SW Fillmore, Topeka, KS 66606.
