Barbara J. McCartney, 87, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022.
She was born December 20, 1934, in Newton, Kansas, the daughter of Paul William, Sr. and Esther Bernice (Toevs) Bartsch. She graduated from Topeka High School and attended Washburn University. She married Dennis McCartney in 1968.
Barbara was a secretary for the state department of Economic Development. She then stayed home to raise their daughter and later went back to work as a secretary for Topeka Collegiate. Later, she was a secretary for her husband at Coldwell Banker Real Estate.
She was a member of many bible study groups, Women's Aglow, and Wycliffe Bible Translators.
Survivors include her daughter, Maria (Aaron) Hoffman, 11 grandchildren, Zuzu, Zinovi, Pazio, Zivia, Zavali, Austin (Kayla), Addison, Adam, Alexander, Andrew, Ashton; and five great-grandchildren, as well as, other family members, Kathy (Ron) Doyle, Loral (Anita) McCartney, Kenneth (Rose Marie) McCartney, Cheri (Jerry) Dey and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded her in death by her husband, Dennis Clyde McCartney on December 24, 2021, her parents and three siblings, Anna Marie Spallinger, John (Florence) Bartsch, and Paul (Louisa) Bartsch,Jr.
Barbara enjoyed flower gardening. She was an amazing cook and baker. She cherished her family and loved the time she spent with them. She loved Jesus and was an angel that walked the earth. We will miss her greatly but look forward to seeing her again one day.
Funeral services will be 1pm Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Berryton. A visitation will be from 6-8pm Monday, January 17, 2022 at the funeral home.
