Barbara L. Mccomas

Barbara L. McComas, 67, Topeka, passed away Monday, October 8, 2012. Barbara was born March 30, 1945, in Racine, WI, daughter of Roland and Norma (Dobberfuhl) Wilde. She graduated from Concordia University, Chicago.

Barbara taught at First Lutheran School, Baton Rouge, LA, and Topeka Lutheran School. She received the honors of Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year, Kansas Lutheran Teacher of the Year, LEA Distinguished Lutheran Elementary Teacher, and Concordia University Athletic Hall of Fame.

Barbara was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Topeka, and also worked for the Kansas District office of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.

Barbara is survived by her brothers, Arthur (Carolyn) Wilde, Findlay, OH; and David (Kathryn) Wilde, Carrollton, TX; step children, Rod Dion, Steve McComas, Mike McComas, and Debbie Adams; nieces, Julie Harrison, Becky Armentrout, and Christina Wilde; nephews, Michael Wilde and Eric Wilde; four great nieces and nephews; and five step grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Carol Wilde.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 12, 2012, at Faith Lutheran Church, Topeka. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Barbara will lie in state after 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 11th, at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
