Barbara J. Metzler, 84, of Topeka, died on Friday, September 13, 2013.
Joyce was born on September 27, 1928 in Topeka to James Clinton and Martha Avis (King) McCarter. She graduated from Highland Park High School and worked as a secretary for Santa Fe Railroad and for Dr. Duane McCarter in Topeka.
She was married to Carl D. Metzler on June 12, 1949 in Topeka; he preceded her in death on March 22, 2010. She was a member of First Christian Church in Topeka.
She is survived by two sons, Mark (Tari) Metzler and Brad (Mary) Metzler, both of Topeka; three grandchildren, Melanie (James) Butler, Megan (Brandon) Craddock, and Mitch Metzler, 7 great grandchildren, one brother, Bryce McCarter of Topeka, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Metzler, son Scott Metzler and two infant sons, one granddaughter, Suzanne Metzler, and three brothers, Jack McCarter, Duane McCarter, and Boyce McCarter.
Joyce will lie in state after 3 p.m., Monday, September 16, 2013 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00p.m. that evening. A funeral ceremony will be held at 1:00p.m., Tuesday, September 17 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Interment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka.
