Barbara Jean Desch Degenhardt
Barbara Jean Degenhardt, 77, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2007 at Medicalodges Holton in Holton, Kansas.
She was born December 15, 1929 in Topeka, the daughter of Casper and Mary Ann Jacobs Desch, who preceded her in death. She was a 1948 graduate of Hayden High School and of Topeka School of Business.
Barbara was united in marriage to George J. Degenhardt on October 1, 1955 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on February 28, 2001.
She was a homemaker and later worked and retired from the State of Kansas, Department of Revenue. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Most Pure Heart of Mary in Topeka and currently a member of Christ The King Catholic Church.
She is survived by two sons, Daniel A. and his wife, Sarah Degenhardt of Holton, KS and Marc J. Degenhardt of Marysville, KS; nine grandchildren, Melissa, Tyler, Danielle, Whitney, Garrett, Walker, Abigail, Emily, and Adalee; four sisters, Catherine Hafner, Rose Desch, and Mary Parry, all of Topeka, and Florence Negri of Wichita, KS; and two brothers, George Desch of Topeka and Ray Desch of San Antonio, TX. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Betty Patzell and brothers, Edward Desch, Francis Desch, John Desch, Peter Desch, and Casey Desch.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 5, 2007 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5973 SW 25th, Topeka with Father Richard Halvorson officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. She will lie in state after 5:00 p.m., Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where there will be a Wake Service at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday with a visitation to follow.
