Baltasar "Pete" Ramirez, 79, of Topeka passed away Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003 at his home. He was born in Topeka on Sept. 19, 1924 to Manuel and Elena Almaguer Ramirez.
Pete worked as a painter for the Santa Fe Railroad for about 45 years. He was a life time member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and was a coach at the SCABA league baseball at Lake Shawnee. Mr. Ramirez was a WWII Army-Air Corps veteran, serving in India and reaching the rank of SSgt.
On April 24, 1948 in Topeka, he married Beatrice Lopez. She survives and lives at the home. Other survivors include four sons; Pete of Denver, CO; Celso, George and Raymond, all of Topeka. There are two brothers, Daniel and Jesus of Topeka and five grandsons; Pete, Raymond, Philip, Emilio Jesus and Leon.
Pete will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town on Thursday beginning at noon; rosaries will be recited at 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm, with a Prayer Service at 6:30pm. The family will receive friends from 7:30-8:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment with full military honors will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
