Audrey June Peterson

Audrey June Peterson, age 91, passed away January 13, 2019. She was born June 27, 1927 in Hartford, Kansas to Lulu (Swanner) and Charles Holforty.
Audrey was the youngest of 3 children.
She met her husband, Robert "Pete" Peterson while both were attending Newman Hospital School of Nursing in Emporia, KS. The two were wed on July 17, 1949, and were married for 60 years. They traveled the U.S., visiting every state but Hawaii. Audrey and Pete raised four children at their home in Wakarusa, Kansas and filled their time with camping, playing bridge with friends, and many memorable vacations. Audrey was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Audrey was a true nurturer in all aspects of her life. Whether it was nursing sick farm animals to health as a young girl, caring for her patients as a registered nurse, tending to her family as a wife and mother, or doting on her 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Audrey felt called to care for others. She had a gentle, quiet disposition and was blessed with the gift of being an intent listener.
Many of Audrey's talents included baking, gardening, sewing, and spoiling her grandchildren. Audrey created a loving home for her family, complete with plenty of treats. Some family favorites include monster cookies, apple pie, Wakarusa School Peanut Butter Cookies, and her chocolate bourbon pecan pie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Earl; her sister Anna; her son, Kim I. Peterson and her husband, Robert I. Peterson.
Audrey is survived by her loving daughters, Carol Frazee of Topeka, Kansas, Laurie Peterson of Wakarusa, KS, and Susan (Robert) Breckenridge of Cameron, MO; seven grandchildren: Michael Peterson of Oregon, James (Erika) Garcia of Topeka, KS, Katie (Trent) Schell of Kansas City, MO, Lacy (Jason) Coy of Kansas City, MO, Ashleigh (Alex) Hill of Gardener, KS; Becca Frazee (Ben Esau) of Topeka Kansas, and Morgan (Gary) Weidemann of Kansas City, MO. Audrey was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was adored and loved by her family, and will be greatly missed.
Visitation and service will be held Saturday, January 26th at the Wakarusa Presbyterian Church, 10135 SW Jordan Rd, Wakarusa, Kansas 66546. Phone 785-836-2100. Visitation will be at 10:00 am with services following at 11:00 am. Interment will be held at a later date at the Shawnee Center Cemetery in Wakarusa. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wakarusa Presbyterian Church or charity of choice.
