There is joy in Heaven another Saint has come home.

Audrey Carol Miller of Topeka Ks died at Midland Hospice on Nov. 18, 2009. Audrey lived at home until she fell and fractured her hip on Nov 9, 2009. She was born June 25, 1921 at Winfield, Kansas daughter of Elsie Gottchalk Miller and Wellington Ellsworth Miller. She was the ninth of ten children.
Audrey attended grade and high school in Winfield. Ks. With little help and hard work she graduated from Southern Nazarene University (formerly Bethany College) Magna Cum Laude. Audrey immediately, (March of 1943) enlisted in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corp later becoming the Women's Army Corp where she served with the 8th Air force Composite Command. until the war ended. She received an Honorable Discharge Dec 5, 1945. Audrey earned a Masters Degree both in Elementary Education and Social Work. She worked in both fields for many years, retiring August 1, 1982 from Kansas Social and Rehabilitation Services as an Educator. After retirement she worked as a volunteer at the Women's Correctional Facility, in the public schools and hospice. She authored the book, "How I Climbed the Learning Tree".
Audrey was a very active Christian and a member of the Church of the Nazarene both at Linwood in Wichita and First Nazarene in Topeka; she worked with the children in these churches for many years. Later she became a member of the Elmont Methodist Church providing her help were ever she could.
Audrey had not been well for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Brothers Elmer, Jesse, Roy, Walter, Richard and John and Sister Lillian. She is survived by her sister Lois, nieces and nephews, housemate Katie Klassen and friends and caregivers, especially Vickie Mathews, Mary Jo Anderson and Debbie McKnight.
Audrey chose to be cremated. Memorial ceremonies will be at 1 p.m., Monday, November 23, 2009 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave. Topeka. Ks. Private inurnment will be at Willowood Place. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Ks 66606 or to Elmont United Methodist Church, 3024 NW 66th St. Topeka Ks 66618.
