Arwin Bauman

Arwin S. Bauman, 83, Topeka, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2021.

He was born October 7, 1937, in Sabetha, Kansas, the son of Alvin, Sr., and Minnie (Strube) Bauman. He graduated from Sabetha High School in 1955, and attended Kansas State University. He graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1971 with a degree in Industrial Technology, and also attended Washburn University.

He was a US Navy veteran, serving as a Seabee in the 1960s.

Arwin worked in Facilities Management for the State of Kansas Capital Complex, was a City Manager in Stockton, Kansas, and also worked in Facilities Management for Southern Illinois University.

Mr. Bauman was baptized on November 7, 1937, in Fairview, Kansas, and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on June 24, 1951, also in Fairview. He later taught Sunday School and served as a trustee. He was a long-time member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Topeka.

On September 10, 1966, he married Loretta Buss at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Topeka, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include his daughters: Kathy (David) Bartels, Topeka; and Kami (Chad) Mathis, Land O' Lakes, FL; two grandchildren: Hannah and Sadey Mathis; three step-grandchildren: Ben (fiancé Lauren) Bartels, Claire (Nigel) Williamson, and Samantha Bartels; seven siblings: Alvin "Bud" (Ursula) Bauman, Jr., Sabetha, KS; Dale (Karen) Bauman, Fairfield, NE; Galen (Karen) Bauman, Sabetha, KS; Marlene (Ray) Hightower, Manhattan, KS; Thurlene DeVillbiss, Lake Charles, LA; Gene (Mary) Bauman, Spearfish, SD; and Janet Hoyer, Lawrence, KS; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Arwin was a talented acoustic guitarist, playing for wedding dances with his brothers and for family gatherings. He had a beautiful tenor voice, and sang in a barbershop quartet, as well as in the church choir. He also enjoyed rebuilding farm toys. He attended a number of his daughters' sporting events and music events, and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Family and friends are welcome to gather and visit at the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 6th and Gage.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Maintenance and Enhancement Fund, 901 SW Fillmore, Topeka, KS, 66606 (in honor of Arwin's work in facilities management, and of our Lord, who blessed him with a faithful life).
