Arthur E. King

Arthur Eugene King, 78, of Topeka, passed away, Monday, April 14, 2008 after a 7 ½ year courageous fight with cancer.

He was born in Topeka, KS December 1, 1929 the son of Arthur George and Winnie Viola Fortner King.

He attended schools and lived his entire life in Topeka.

Arthur served his country from 1946-1947 as part of the U.S. Army/Air Force. He was stationed in Japan as part of the occupation forces following WWII.

Arthur graduated from television repair school in Kansas City after he returned from the service. He worked in television in Topeka several years. He went to work for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in 1952, retiring in 1989 as a plant carpenter following 37 years of service.

Arthur was a member of United Rubber Workers Local #307, the Goodyear V.F.W. Post #2187 and several men's bowling leagues.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Perry, step daughter Angela, brothers, Richard and Robert King, and sister Viola Combs.

Arthur married Beverly Bardsley Peaslee in 1953. They were divorced. He married Sharon Meyer Deedrick in May 1979. She survives. Other survivors include his daughter Sherri (Gregg) Swank, Plano, TX; step sons, John (Annette) Deedrick, Topeka; Philip (Tricia) Deedrick, Topeka; grandchildren, Thomas and Jennifer Swank, Noah, Megan, Cory, Courtney, Tristan and Morgan Deedrick; brother, William (Joann) King; sister in law, Velma King; nieces, nephews, and many good friends.

He will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, his zest for life and love for his family.

Mr. King was cremated. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday April 17, 2008 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Memorial services will follow at 1:00 p.m., Friday April 18, at the funeral home. Private inurnment will be in the Wamego City Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to Kansas Dialysis Service LLC, 634 S.W. Mulvane, Topeka, 66606 or to Cotton O' Neil Cancer Center/Attn: Stormont-Vail Foundation, 1500 S.W. 10th Avenue, Topeka, 66604.
