Arthur "Freddy" Countryman, 71, of Kinsley, KS passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka. He was born on May 18, 1938 in Kinsley, the son of John D. and Ardis Cornell Countryman. He lived most of his life in Kinsley. He graduated from Kinsley High School in 1956. He was an Army veteran. Freddy was employed as a pattern maker for Douglas Aircraft in Los Angeles for 15 years. He then became a self-employed contractor in Kinsley. His true passion was guitar and played in several bands. One of his recordings was featured as a Billboard Magazine Top 10. He was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. Freddy married Celia "Cee" Shelton on July 2, 1973 in Lewis, KS. They were divorced. Survivors include two daughters, Amanda "Mandi" Zinn and Kelli Kniffen, both of Olathe, KS, four grandchildren, eight brothers, Jimmy, Gene, Wayne, Sam, Eddie, David, Bobby and Virgil and four sisters, Elsie, Mary, Julia and Kathy. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at the V.F.W. Post No. 7349 in Kinsley. Private inurnment will take place in Hillside Cemetery in Kinsley at a later date. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel in Topeka is in charge of arrangements.
