Arnold Rice

Arnold L. Rice, 80, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2006 at Midland Hospice House.

He was born September 1, 1926 in Oskaloosa, the son of C.E. "Ned" and Aileen Smith Rice.

He attended public schools in Oskaloosa, graduating from Oskaloosa High School in 1945. He went to work for the Kansas Dept. of Transportation, retiring after 41 years of service. He was an avid outdoorman and was especially fond of fishing and skeet shooting. He was a member of the Topeka Engineers Club and the Kansas Association of Public Employees.

He married Lila M. Strahm on April 9, 1950 in Topeka. She survives.

Other survivors include a sister, Mary Jane Byers of Topeka and numerous other relatives.

Mr. Rice will lie in state after 1:00 pm, Sunday, October 8 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, October 9 at the funeral home with burial to follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
