Arlie Leonard Mayer, 85, of Burlington, KS, formerly of Rossville, KS passed away Sunday, November 28, 2010.
He was born March 27, 1925 in Seneca, KS, the son of Harvey and Rose (Wegman) Mayer, Sr.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of Burlington United Methodist Church and the Rossville American Legion.
Arlie married Mary Jo Roush in 1946 in Topeka. She preceded him in death on December 29, 1978. He married Grace M. (Lawson) Wilson on December 27, 1979 in Miami, OK. She survives. Other survivors include three children, Sharon Kay Mayer, Lawrence, KS, Jeffrey Allen (Gwen) Mayer, Topeka, and Stanley Edward (Jane) Mayer, Middletown, NY; two stepchildren, Karen (Glenn) Reeves, Burlington, KS and Patricia (Larry) Oestreich, Sherman, TX; grandchildren, Megan Mayer Anderson and Paula and Alex Mayer; step-grandchildren, Deborah Winfield, Richard Karnowski, Nicole Passafume, Kelly Ledom, Benjamin Allen and Chris Oestreich; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Dylan Anderson; step-great-grandchildren, Sydney and Allyson Ledom, Spencer and Logan Oestreich, Makayla Passafume, and Jenna Karnowski; his siblings, Carolyn Duffer, Harvey Mayer, Jr., Herbert Mayer, Rosalie Chase and David Mayer. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Mildred Beasley.
Cremation is planned. Memorial ceremonies will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to Rossville American Legion, Post No. 31, 442 N Main St, Rossville, KS 66533.
