Arleta "Lee" Barber, 83, Topeka, died Friday, March 10, 2006 at Midland Hospice House.
She was born March 2, 1923 in Lebanon, KS, the daughter of B. Owen and Hazel Dunton Boyer. She graduated from Manhattan High School and received a BA in Journalism from Kansas State University. Mrs. Barber was employed with the Menninger Foundation and the Kansas Medical Society.
She married Robert V. Barber on Jan. 17, 1947 in Manhattan. They came to Topeka in 1957. He died Feb. 22, 1998.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Barber and wife, Linda, Raymore, MO, and Clifford Barber, Topeka; a daughter, Amy Fluke and husband, Paul, Topeka; a brother, Lyndon Boyer, Ponca City, OK; three grandchildren, Daniel Stout, Kathleen Stout, and Todd Hawkins; two great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Brittany Hawkins.
Mrs. Barber will lie in state after noon Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Cremation will follow. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Hope Chapel. Inurnment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
