Argell D. Jantzen

May 11, 1940 — July 15, 2023

Argell D. Jantzen, 83, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023.

He was born May 11, 1940, in Lindsborg, Kansas, the son of Walter and Hulda (Dyck) Jantzen. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1958. After graduation he went to Washburn University where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Music and his Master's Degree from Emporia State.

He married Margaret Elizabeth Miller on December 24, 1967 at Lowman United Methodist Church in Topeka, KS. They met and fell in love at the church in August and were married later that year. They welcomed three children to their union in marriage, John, Chrystal and Cory.

Argell was a music teacher for Topeka Public Schools for six years. He was later employed by Goodyear Tire and Rubber for 33 years, retiring on May 1, 2003. While working at Goodyear, he also taught private music lessons for several years at his home.

He was a faithful member of Lowman United Methodist Church since 1954. Argell sang bass in the church choir, helped with Let's Help, served meals for Meals on Wheels and was the church Treasurer for a number of years. Argell and Margaret were both Stephen Ministers and visited people at nursing homes, hospitals and performed one on one counseling to those in need. After retirement, he volunteered with the Topeka Public Library.

Argell loved to fish, work on puzzles, ride his bike and was an avid reader. He also enjoyed bird watching and had an extensive pipe collection. He enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs, Royals and KU Basketball. He had a passion for traveling and cruising, but his favorite trip was to Cancun in 2018 with his entire family where they were able to spend time together. His family meant everything to him. Argell's dry sense of humor was a major part of his personality.

He leaves behind his wife, Margaret Elizabeth Jantzen; his children, John A. (Kimberly) Jantzen, Chrystal A. (Mark) Garrett and Cory A. (Katrina) Jantzen; his grandchildren, Courtney N. Garrett, David S. Jantzen, Nicholas W. Garrett, Cassity E. Jantzen and Kyra F. Jantzen; several nieces and nephews and two great nephews and one sister in-law, Sandra Sanders.
