Ardith Arlene Burgoon, 91, of Topeka and formerly of Ottawa, passed away May 13, 2009 in Topeka.
Ardith was born December 21, 1917 in Ottawa to Samuel Otto and Minta Pearl (Clark) Northway. She attended schools in both Ottawa and Blue Mound as a child. Ardith moved to Topeka in 1954. She worked for the State of Kansas for 24 years, retiring in 1982. Ardith was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ottawa, Eagles Aux., American Legion Aux. Post #1, Core First Bank Charter Club, and she attended Lakeview Church of the Nazarene in Topeka. Ardith always enjoyed helping others. She enjoyed traveling, camping, and working crossword puzzles.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Eugene (Arlene) Burgoon of Topeka, two grandchildren; Joyce Burgoon and Gene (Lisa) Burgoon, both of Topeka, two great-grandchildren; Carrie and Kyle Burgoon, of Topeka, a brother, Sam (Joan) Northway of Ottawa, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and great nieces and nephews. Ardith is preceded in death by her loving husband, Bert Burgoon, a brother, Estel Northway, and a sister, Doris Lyster.
Ardith will lie in state after 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 17th, at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 18th, 10:00 am, at Lakeview Church of the Nazarene in Topeka, with a graveside service at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa at 2:00 pm. Pastor Richard Guilfoil will officiate both services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lakeview Church of the Nazarene.
