Anthony John Schumacher, 59, of Topeka, passed away as a Donor Hero on May 23, 2024 at KUMC in Kansas City, Kansas.
He was born on September 6, 1964 to Steven and Kathleen (Schoenfeld-Schumacher) Shepard in Topeka, Kansas. He grew up in Topeka with a large extended family on both his mother’s and father’s sides. Anthony was very athletic, playing on sports teams all through school including basketball, baseball, track, and football. As an adult Anthony was a lifeguard for a period of time, he lifted weights, and competed in the Tin Man triathlon. Anthony has held several different jobs throughout his life. He worked for his dad’s carwash, sold shoes in a shoe store, was a bartender, he worked with children in mental hospitals, worked with intellectually disabled people, and started his own business, Schumacher’s Home Improvement.
On June 28, 1997, he married Amy Lee Sommer. Anthony and Amy started and grew their family in Topeka, Kansas. Anthony was a devoted husband and father. He loved being outdoors in nature. Almost every weekend he took his family on a hike in various spots in Topeka. He would also take the family camping at least twice during the summer months. Anthony enjoyed live music and especially loved listening to Reggae. He dabbled in conspiracy theories and liked watching the news on TV. Football season was a favorite time of year for him watching the KC Chiefs play football. Anthony was a good listener, he could (and would) talk to anyone, and tried to be a friend to anyone he came in contact with. He always tried to remember names and special details about the people he met. He believed that everyone has the right to be who they are as individuals and above all, Anthony believed in love.
