Anthony "Tony" Obregon, 61, of Topeka, passed away unexpectedly Monday, April 3, 2023.
He was born July 18, 1961, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Simon and Cresencia (Almaguer) Obregon. He graduated from Hayden High School in 1979 and went on to attend Washburn University.
Tony was a family man. His family meant the absolute world to him. His family always came first and he would be there in an instant if you needed him. He was the perfect dad to his daughter, Chelsea and he created a strong bond with his son in law Darren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He had a love for food and humor. During the holidays he would always call ahead of time to see what was on the menu. His sense of humor was a large part of who he was. He had the best stories to share and was great at giving everyone a nickname, even if it was inappropriate.
Tony retired from the Topeka Police Department in 2016. During his time with the department he worked as an officer and lastly he was on the Fugitive Task Force for the United States Marshal Service.
Recently, Tony worked as a school officer for Topeka 501 Schools traveling throughout the city making sure the schools stayed safe.
He had a love for sports. When he wasn't working or spending time with his friends and family, you could catch him cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs, Royals and KU.
Survivors include his daughter, Chelsea (Darren) Obregon-White; sisters, Rosalinda (Arthur) Alcala, Gloria Obregon, Roxanne Obregon, and Rebecca (Richard) Zuniga; many nieces and nephews and his sweet soon to be granddaughter who will make her appearance in June 2023 and his best friend, Ron Jeanneret.
