Anthony R. Martinez
Age 84, passed away September 25, 2002 at a local hospital. He was born November 25, 1917 in Topeka, Kansas the son of Manuel and Jovita Ruiz Martinez.
He attended Hayden High School. He served in Civilian Conservation Corps . He was a certified Welder. He was employed at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company of Topeka retiring after 35 years of service.
He was charter member of GI Forum, member of Knights of Columbus Council 2608, Fourth
Degree Knight. Bilingual Interpreter for Topeka Police Department for many years. Charter member and Troop Leader of Troop 38 and Commissioner of Boy Scouts for Our Lady of Guadalupe School. He was a recipient of the Atari Dei Award. Member of the International Center of Topeka at Washburn University. Member of Los PADRES Inc. He was head usher at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church for many years.
He was married to Nickey Dominguez on September 28, 1941 in Topeka, KS. for 62 years. She survives:
He is preceded in death by a son Joseph Edward Martinez.
Other survivors include: 2 sons, Anthony D. Martinez Houston, TX, Patrick A. Martinez, Topeka, KS. 4 daughters, Barbara A. Jordan, Topeka, KS, Patricia M. Ponder Mulvane, KS, Diana J. Smith, Wichita, KS, Dr. Adele M. Kestner, Dallas,TX. Two Sisters: Henrietta Flowers, Topeka, KS, Elvira Gutierrez, Oklahoma City, OK, One brother: Elogio Martinez, Topeka, KS, 8 Grandchildren, and 9 Great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am, Monday, September 30, 2002 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Cremation will follow private family inurnment will be at a later date. Parish Rosary will be recited at Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel at 6:30pm Sunday, September 29, 2002, followed by Knights of Columbus service. Mr. Martinez will lie in state from 1pm September 28, 2002 until service time at the funeral home.
