Anthony D. "Tony" Johnson, 41, of Newport News, VA (formerly of Topeka) passed away Monday, October 26, 2009. Born December 3, 1967, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Darrell and Joyce Johnson.
He was a 1986 graduate of Topeka West High School.
Tony married Jaclyn Counts on August 8, 2003, in Newport News, VA.
Tony began his career at 14 years of age working in pawn shops with his father at Capital City Pawn and Jewelry. He continued working as a broker at Superior Pawn and Gun in Hampton, VA. Tony always said he "was born a pawnbroker".
He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in York County, VA.
Reading was his life passion. Pastimes include his love for fishing, snorkeling, animals, hiking the Shenandoah Mountains and American History. Tony was loving and compassionate, with a smile that will be remembered by all.
Survivors include his parents, Darrell and Joyce Johnson; Karen Fowlkes of Hartfield, VA; wife, Jaclyn Johnson of Newport News, VA; step children and a half sister, Kyrsten Hill of Hartfield, VA.
Family will receive friends, Sunday, November 1 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
