Anne O'Gara, 93, of Topeka, passed away on Jan. 10, at Midland Hospice House. She was born June 7, 1916, in Linn, KS, the daughter of Rev. Carl and Hedwig (Knoernschild) Lehenbauer. On Nov. 27, 1941, in Topeka, KS, she married Maurice O'Gara. He passed away in Feb. of 1999.
Anne grew up in Alma, KS, later graduating from Topeka High School in 1935. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and later became a Charter Member of Faith Lutheran Church, both of Topeka. She was very active in the church choir, LWML, and served as church secretary. She enjoyed sewing, bowling, square dancing, camping, playing cards, traveling, and spending time with her family. She was co-owner and manager of Similar Mode Uniforms for many years.
She is survived by: children, Elaine O'Gara (Bob Shapiro), Dennis (Cecilia) O'Gara, Joan (Jay) Oyler, and John O'Gara (Janet Sokell); sister, Dorothy Schoech; and grandchildren, Tyler O'Gara, Alex Oyler, Alanna O'Gara, Christin Oyler, and Patrick O'Gara.
She was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thurs., Jan. 14, at Faith Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Anne will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. on Wed., Jan. 13, at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, with the family receiving friends from 5-7p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to Midland Care Hospice Services or Faith Lutheran Church.
