Anna M. Phippen, 90, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at a Topeka hospital. She was born on September 30, 1916 in Havensville, the daughter of John H. and Myrtle Post Markham. Anna attended elementary school at America City. She graduated from Havensville High School and Emporia State University with a BS in Elementary Education. Anna taught in various schools in Northeast Kansas for 28 years and at Topeka Avondale East for 10 years. She was a member of TARTA, the Kansas State Teachers Association, NRTA and the Berryton Baptist Church. She sang in the Starlighters Choral Group and was the Director of the New Beginnings Choir. She shared her musical talents by volunteering at many area care homes. Anna married Dale W. Bryan on April 12, 1941 in Havensville. He preceded her in death on September 21, 1981. She later married Raymond J. Hinkle on July 2, 1983 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on January 25, 1987. She later married Harry Phippen on February 14, 1991. He preceded her in death. Survivors include one son, Dale W. Bryan, Jr. of Topeka, one daughter, Jane Pankratz of Topeka, three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Mount Hope Mausoleum Chapel. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum. Anna will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to the Berryton Baptist Church, 6741 S.E. Berryton Rd., Berryton, KS 66409.
