Ann Ukena

Ann Ukena, 78, of Topeka, KS, passed away on January 16, 2018 at Aldersgate Village.

She was born on January 13, 1940 in Haddam, KS to Fred Seymour and Bernice (Whipkey) Seymour. She graduated from Linn Rural High School in 1957. She went on to earn her Bachleor's degree in Education from Emporia State University. She held a Master's degree in Mathematics from San Diego State University.

Ann married Gaylord Ukena on June 4, 1961 at Bellevue EUB Church in Leona, KS. He preceded her in death in 2015.

She taught high school mathematics in Highland, KS and in Linn, KS. She retired after 31 years as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Washburn University in 1996.

She is survived by a son, Alan Ukena of Topeka, KS; brother Fred R. Seymour; nephews, Alexander Seymour, Adrian Seymour, Marc Lammy of Columbia, MO; nieces, Diane Martin of Iowa City, IA, Suzanne Webster of Westchester, PA, Mary Johnson of Las Vegas, NV, and Kay Johnson of Kansas City, MO.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 in the sanctuary at First United Methodist Church, 600 SW Topeka Blvd.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Adult Hand Bell Choir at First United Methodist Church.

Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is assisting the family.
