Ann Miles, 80, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2012.
Ann was born to Earl and Dorotha Miller in 1932. As a teenager she worked at a movie theater in the College Hill area near Washburn University in Topeka. There she looked forward to her future husband Bernie Miles stopping to buy popcorn from her. Ann graduated from Topeka High School in 1951 and married Bernie in November 1952. She and Bernie celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2002.
Ann worked at Hallmark Cards in Topeka assembling intricate greeting cards by hand. She later worked as a bookkeeper at Forbes Air Force Base for a few years before choosing to stay at home to raise their children.
Ann was artistically inclined. One expression of this was as a skilled seamstress, creating clothing for the children. Another activity she greatly enjoyed was through painting with works ranging from sunsets and a large, detailed mountain country scene to a depiction of the flight sequence for the space shuttle.
Music was very important to Ann. She particularly liked the popular music of the 50s and songs of faith. She encouraged her children to learn to play music which she and Bernie further supported by attending numerous concerts over the years. They were also dedicated to attending all other activities as well.
Bernie preceded Ann in death in 2003 as did their infant son William in 1962.
Survivors include her siblings Robert Miller, Delores Pagel, Richard (Nancy) Miller, Ralph (Pam) Miller, and Kay (Richard) Laufenberg. Surviving children include son Gregory (Betty) Miles and grandchildren Mary and Paul; daughter Cathy (Don) Cathey and grandchildren Michelle, Doug, Josh (Erin) and great-grandchild Tristan; Vincent (Juliet) Miles and granddaughter A'lina (Ellis) Banks and great-grandchildren Londyn and Ellis; and Deborah (Ken) Greiner, and grandchildren Michael, Matthew, and Mitchell.
