Alyce Joyce Lloyd passed away peacefully on Sunday November 20, 2022 with family by her side. She was born on July 29,1934 in Benton, Kansas to Blanche Turpin Patterson and Leo Patterson. She married Jim Henault and they had three sons Mark, Greg, and Gary. Later she married the love of her life David Lloyd. David passed away on January 24, 2009. During their marriage they became entrepreneurs when they owned and operated, a well-known Topeka restaurant, Alyce's Twist. Alyce began her career in human services by working at Topeka State Hospital while attending Washburn University. Alyce was dedicated to education and obtained a Bachelors in Education from Washburn University and went on to earn a Masters degree in special education from Kansas State University. Throughout her career she was dedicated to working with youth as she served as a teacher in USD 501 for 26 years. She began her career in education as a Math Teacher at Curtis Junior High until the school closed. During her time there she worked with fellow women educators to obtain equal pay. She continued her education career at Capital City High School for 21 years up until her retirement in 1996.
In her retirement she enjoyed time with family, friends, and she loved and taking trips to new places. She enjoyed simple things in life such as playing cards, gardening, and painting. Some of her fondest memories revolved around the time she with spent family and friends. She always knew that life with David would be a great adventure including David's Naval ship reunions throughout the country. She often spoke with us about her trips with co-workers and friends. She took great pleasure recalling these memories, even in her last few days she remembered her visits England, Ireland, and Scotland.
She is survived by her sons Mark (Rita) of Fayetteville, Georgia; Greg Henault, Gary (Kamela) of Topeka. As well grandchildren who she always sought to make memories with, Angela (Eric) McHardie, Andrew (Christy) Henault, Tom (Alex) Henault, Sara (Tyler) Baxter, and Kayla (Ryan) Aguilar and her 6 great grandchildren who brought her great pleasure. Alyce is also survived by her brother Dick (Martha) Patterson, Brother-in-Law Dave Mahoney, Brother-in-Law and Sister-in-Law Marion and Muriel Parker, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband David Lloyd, her sister Patricia Mahoney, and her infant brother.
The family with like to thank all the amazing caregivers in the facilities where Alyce lived her last years for the care, companionship, and coffee they provided.
The family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Penwell-Gabel. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Alyce's service will be livestreamed at the scheduled service time.
