Alta May Johnson, 90 died Saturday, May 21, 2005 at Aldersgate Village.
Mrs. Johnson was a teacher in Shawnee County for 42 years retiring in 1976. She taught 26 years in the Seaman District.
She was born August 13, 1914 near Augusta, Kansas the daughter of Geroge and Alta May Weimer Irwin. She moved, with her parents to a farm near Wakarusa, in 1924. She graduated from Auburn Rural High School and Washburn University with Bachelor's and Master's Degrees.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of First Christian Church, Christian Women's Fellowship, and Dr. Smith's Bible Class. She was a life member of Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa sorority of Women educators, Topeka Area Retired Teachers Association, Kansas Retired Teacher's Association, and Kansas National Education Association.
She was married to Jesse H. Johnson, January 2, 1942 at Topeka. He died December 24, 1995.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Weimer Irwin and a sister Mary Irwin.
Survivors are many nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 26, 2005 at Mt. Hope Chapel and burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Mrs. Johnson will lie in state from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
