Allen Dean Schmidt

Allen Dean Schmidt, 85, Topeka, passed away Monday, June 26, 2017.

He was born June 11, 1932, in Galva, Kansas, the son of David and Dena (Nightingale) Schmidt. He graduated from McPherson County High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

Allen was in the milling business for over 42 years, retiring as Superintendent from Topeka Cargill.

He was a member of the Elmont United Methodist Church. He was a lifetime member V.F.W. Post No. 1650 and American Legion Post No. 400.

Allen married Elsie M. Thiessen on December 10, 1955 in Fairbury, Nebraska. She survives. Other survivors include four children: Debra Hepp, Deana (Larry) Jackson, Angela Schmidt and Gregory Schmidt; one sister, Ada Koehn and 5 brothers: Chester Schmidt, Kermit Schmidt, Howard Schmidt, Orman Schmidt, Norman Schmidt; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five siblings: Beauferd Schmidt, Madeline Jantz, Roselen Schmidt, Sadie Ratzlaff and Esther Ratzlaff.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel, followed by a funeral service with military honors at 12 noon.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is assisting the family.
