Alleene Barnes, 77, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka.
Alleene was born September 9, 1935, in Macon, MO, daughter of Monty and Claudine (Reynolds) Grant. She was united in marriage to Alphonso Barnes in 1963, he passed away in 1994.
Alleene was employed at KNI for 33 years until her retirement in 1997. She was a member at Northern Hills Baptist Church, Topeka. Alleene enjoyed going to the Elk's Lodge to socialize with all her friends.
She is survived by her two children, Keith (Tamara) Barnes, Garrison, IA; and Yvette Barnes, Topeka; stepson, Robert Barnes, San Jose, CA; brother, Monty Grant, Jr., Macon, MO; sister, Mary Jacques, Moberly, MO; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Alleene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters, and three brothers.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens, Topeka. Ms. Barnes will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Monday, November, 19, 2012, at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
