Alice Wyllie

Alice Joyce Wyllie, loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, has gone home to Heaven to be with God, her family and friends who are there to receive her with open arms. Joyce, as she was known to her friends, was born August 18, 1917, in Manhattan, Kansas. She passed away Sunday, April 24, 2011, at the age of 93. Joyce was the youngest of six children born to Loren Herbert and Emma Alice Livings Whan. Her father was well known in Manhattan and Blue Rapids as a music store owner and realtor. Through her mother, Joyce was descended from the Mayflower Pilgrim, John Howland. All of Joyce's siblings have preceded her in death. Joyce was selected for the National Honor Society in her senior year of high school in Manhattan. Joyce worked for the railroad before she was married and spent most of her married life as a homemaker, giving of herself to her family and others. She also worked several years later in life for the drug and alcohol abuse office in Topeka.

On September 15, 1939, she was married to Walter (Walt) Louis Wyllie. Joyce and Walt were the first joint Presidents of the newly founded Topeka High Boosters Club during the 1970's. They would spend the next 60 years together until Walt's passing in January 2000. This union produced three children; Walter Louis II (deceased), Kay Bradford (Bill) of Topeka, and Donna Droge (Gary) of Tecumseh. Joyce is survived by her two daughters, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Though Joyce is no longer physically with us, all of us who knew and loved her have many special memories of her to keep her alive in our hearts and minds.

A memorial service to celebrate Joyce's life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice, 3715 SW 29th St. Suite 100, Topeka, Kansas 66614.
