Alice "Jean" Townsend, 88, of Topeka, passed away Friday, November 18, 2022 in Topeka, Kansas.
She was born March 29, 1934, in Leavenworth, Kansas, the daughter of Francis "Fritz" Giese and Genevieve "Gen" (Seymour) Pfrimmer. She received an Associate Degree in Medical Records Transcription from Washburn University graduating in 1997.
Alice worked for the Administration Office at Fort Leavenworth, later she joined the VA here in Topeka. She then joined the Menninger Foundation here in Topeka where she retired from in 1999.
Alice married Lawrence Townsend on November 17, 1977 in Topeka, Kansas. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1982.
Survivors include her children; Kerry N. Dunkle, Christopher (Christy) Grape, Norma Jean Duckworth, Charlene Munsell, Sisters; Carol Ann Lewis, Frances Collins. Seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her Husband; Lawrence and her Daughter; Judy Bailey and Son; Charles W. Dunkle.
Alice enjoyed gardening, loved to dance and loved her family. She was involved in her community serving as a poll worker during elections.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. on Monday, November 28, 2022 at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66604. Graveside Service will be 1:30 pm, Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at the Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road, Leavenworth, Kansas 66048. Please meet at the cemetery administration office, and we will be escorted to the service area. If you arrive late, they will guide you as to where to go if you call the number on the sign and let them know you're there for the Townsend's service at 1:30 pm.
