Alice Jean (Carlat) Frohlicher, 83 passed away November 26, 2011 peacefully in her home in Fairfax, VA.
Jean was born May 18, 1928 in Wamego, KS and was the daughter of James Leslie St. John and Alice Genevieve (McKimmons) St. John; she was a graduate of Dover High School.
In 1946 Jean married James Eugene Carlat and they moved to Eugene, Oregon. Jean and Gene were married until his death in 1991. They lived in many places in the western US, Canada and Bolivia; settling in the Fairfax VA area. Jean worked as an administrative assistant in the Bureau of Land Management and after retirement earned a bachelor's degree in English from George Mason University, where she graduated with honors.
Jean was a world traveler, loved to play bridge, read and was a fabulous cook. She enjoyed spending time with her family and treasured grandchildren. Jean married John Frohlicher in 2002 and together they enjoyed many years of retirement.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene Carlat (1991), her second husband, Richard Biedenbender (1999), and her son, Ronald Carlat (2006).
She is survived by her son, Jon Carlat, of Alexandria, VA; daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Mark Kwasnieski and grandchildren Megan and Jamie Kwasnieski of Omaha, NE; her husband, John Frohlicher, of Fairfax, VA.
A funeral ceremony will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, December 1, 2011 at the Dover Federated Church, Dover, KS. Interment will follow at the Dover Cemetery, Dover, Kansas. Jean will lie in state after 3 p.m., Wednesday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CommuniTYler, 13424 Burdette St, Omaha, NE 68164(http://communityler.org/).
