Alice J. Behne

Alice J. Behne, 76, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2022.

She was born March 3, 1946, in Leavenworth, Kansas, the daughter of Henry and Margaret (Wohlfarth) Behne. She grew up in Easton, KS and graduated from Easton High School. After graduation, she attended Washburn University for one year to further her education.

Alice returned to Easton and began working as a Secretary for Easton High School. After her time working for the school, she accepted a job at the Leavenworth Veterans Hospital and eventually transferred to the Topeka V.A. Hospital. While working in Topeka, Alice joined the Army Reserves and became an Administrative Technician for the Topeka Army National Guard. She retired from Civil Service and the Army National Guard. After a brief retirement, she became a Sales Clerk for JC Penny's for a few years.

Alice was a member of the Easton United Methodist Church, of Easton, Kansas.

She is survived by her sisters, Rita Zachariah of Lafayette, IN and Carol (Rick) Jones of Sparks, NV; brother, John (Diane) Behne of Easton, Kansas; sister in law, Jacinta Behne and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Helen M. Schwartz, Richard Behne and Donald Walter Behne.

A memorial service honoring Alice will be at 9:30am on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66604. The family welcomes anyone that is not able to attend the service in Topeka to meet them for a meal and visitation time starting at 11:30am at the Easton United Methodist Church, 4th and Riley, Easton, Kansas. After the luncheon, family will proceed to Bethel Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas to lay Alice to rest. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Women at the Easton United Methodist Church, 4th and Riley, Easton, KS 66020.
