Alfred S. Hubbard, Sr., 83, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at Midland Hospice House. He was born on April 1, 1924 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Harry B. and Minnie Smith Hubbard. He had resided in Oskaloosa before moving to Topeka. Alfred was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was employed by the State of Kansas for 26 years before retiring in September of 1990. He was a member of the American Legion Headquarters Post No. 58 and the National Rifle Association. Alfred married Lois Evelyn Evans. She preceded him in death on October 6, 1993. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Tina Marie Hubbard in 1961, one grandson, Timothy Lee Evans in 1994, five brothers, Edward, Burford, Earnest and Thomas, Sr., Harvey and two sisters, Nettie Magee and Mary Wingate. Survivors include three sons, Alfred Stewart Hubbard, Jr., of Salem, CT, Ron Hubbard of Topeka, Leslie Crouch of Topeka, two daughters, Anna Hair of Topeka, and Terri Hubbard of Topeka, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Underwood Cemetery near Williamstown. Alfred will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
