Alfred M. Geiger

Alfred M. Geiger, 92, Topeka, died Monday, March 29, 2010 of a heart attack at his home. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving from October 1941 to December 1945, in the Coast Artillery and Ordnance Department. He was employed at the Topeka Air Force Depot as general foremen of vehicle and powered ground equipment repair until the Depot closed in July 1961. He then was employed by the City of Topeka, Engineering Department until his retirement in February 1983.
He was born February 15, 1918 at Olpe, Kansas the son of Jacob and Anna Boes Geiger. He was married to Agilberta "Bertie" Brands on July 25, 1945 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia, Kansas. She preceded him in death. Survivors include a son, Larry Geiger and his wife, Nancy, Overland Park, Kansas, a daughter, Linda Geiger, Houston, Texas and three sisters, Mary Alice Goodwin, Emporia, Kansas, Mildred Mach, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Eileen Gasche, Olpe, Kansas, and two grandchildren, Brian Geiger and Laura Geiger. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ray, Aloysius and Clarence and two sisters, Lucille Decker and Wilhelmina Soule.
Mr. Geiger was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church most of his life and recently became a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He was also a life member of American Legion Post #400 and has served on the Post funeral detail. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans and a member of Top Kan Twirlers Square Dance Club.
Mr. Geiger will lie in state from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel with a Parish Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 5, at 10:00 a. m. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church with burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #400. Memorial contributions may be made to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1800 SW Stone Avenue, Topeka 66604 or to American Heart Association, P.O. Box 1653, Topeka, 66601.
