Aleda Anderson

Aleda Henrietta Anderson, 95, Topeka, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2005 at the Peggy Kelly House. Mrs. Anderson was born March 1, 1910 in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Anton Peter Marius Sorensen and Henrietta Hansini Brillo Sorensen. She was the youngest of two brothers and four sisters.

She graduated from Maccochaque grade school and Rosedale HS and worked as an AT&T long distance operator in Kansas City, Missouri. She married Reuben Anderson on August 26, 1933. They lived in Independence, Missouri and the San Fernando Valley, California before they returned to the farm 8 miles west of Chanute, Kansas. When they retired from farming they lived in Phoenix, Wickenburg and Payson, Arizona. After Reuben passed away in 1990, Aleda moved to Topeka. For the last three years she has resided at Peggy Kelly House in Topeka. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Topeka.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Priddy, Arlington, Texas and a son, Gary Anderson, Meriden. Four grandchildren, two grandchildren by marriage, three great grandchildren, three great grandchildren by marriage and one great great granddaughter by marriage and many special friends.

During her years on the farm she was recognized for outstanding egg production from her hybrid chickens. She enjoyed fishing, dancing, walking, word games and puzzles. She also shared her great baking skills with others by providing cinnamon rolls, cookies and candy. She was very proud of her Danish heritage as her parents and siblings all immigrated to the US from Denmark.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2005 at First Lutheran Church. They family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Mrs. Anderson will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel at 10th and Lane.

Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Bethel Vilas Cemetery west of Chanute.
