Alan D. "Al" Long, Sr., 56, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Stormont-Vail Hospital.
Alan was born August 31, 1960 in Winchester, the son of Paul and June (Flory) Long. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1978. He received his Auto Mechanic certification from Kaw Area Vo-Tech School.
He was most recently employed at Doud's Auto Repair and formerly owned Al's Auto.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, KU Basketball, KC Chiefs Football and NASCAR.
Alan married Brenda Anderson on July 11, 1981 in Valley Falls. She survives. Other survivors include their children, Elizabeth (Brian Beckwith) Long, Topeka, Abbigail (Derek) Brown, Houston, TX, Alan D. Long, Jr., Topeka; grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua Long, Grace Beckwith; brothers, David Long, Aurora, IL, Jerry Long, Topeka; sisters, Cindy Long, Vassar, Sandy Ard, Topeka; his parents, Meriden; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 12, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Inurnment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2016.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Capper Foundation or Coal Creek United Methodist Church, Valley Falls.
