Alan Joel Shepherd, 68, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2010.
He was born January 15, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Morris and Jean (Birmbaum) Shapiro. He received a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from
Michigan State University in 1964 and a M.S. Degree in Industrial Engineering
from Wayne State University in 1966. Mr. Shepherd resided in Washington, DC the last 25years of his professional life, relocating to Topeka in 2008.
He was employed by Bruce Erts & Associates and Chrysler Corporation from1964-1970. He was Founder and Chief Executive officer for Creative Management Group, Southfield, MI from 1970-1977. He was an independent consultant from 1977-1979 in Farmington Hills, MI. He was General Manager for Management Support Associates in New York, NY and Tel Aviv, Israel. He was Managing Vice President of Special Projects for CRSS Constructors, Inc., Washington,DC from 1983-1985. He served as Director of Advanced Program Management for the BDM Corporation in Washington, DC from 1986-1989. He was Vice President of Corporate Business Development for Hill International, Inc in Willingboro, NJ from 1989-1990. He was Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for AWD Technologies, Inc. in Rockville,MD from 1990-1994. He was Director of Business Development, Government Projects for Brown and Root Environmental in Washington, DC from 1994-1997 and served as a Vice President for Washington D.C. Operations for Montgomery Watson and was later employed by Northrup Grumman and was an Independent contractor.
He was a member of the Holocaust Museum Foundation in Washington, DC
Survivors include a son, Kevin P. Shepherd, Topeka and daughter, Robin E. Martinez, Dana Pointe, CA; 2 grandchildren, Andreia Shepherd and Annelyse Martinez. He was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Shapiro.
Honoring his request, cremation has taken place. Private inurnment will be at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, PO Box 90988, Washington, DC 20090. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is assisting the family.
