Alan A. "Doc" Poos, 86, Topeka, passed away at home on Tuesday, November 27, 2012.
Doc was born February 12, 1926 in Lancaster, Kansas, the son of Dr. Henry and Martha (Boatwright) Poos. He graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1944.
Alan married Betty Cusic in her parents' home on September 18, 1949 in Topeka. They were married 58 years before she died on May 17, 2008.
He was employed in the Accounting Department of Santa Fe Railroad for 38 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a former member of the Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, and a member of the Santa Fe Old Timer's Club. Doc and Betty were instrumental in starting the first Water Ski Club in Topeka and both were active skiers throughout their lives.
Survivors include sisters, Alice (Joe) Patterson, Holton, Cara Lee Triplett, Overland Park; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Alan will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 30, 2012 and visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
