Aileen Baker

Aileen "Penny" Baker, 88, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend died peacefully at Homestead Assisted Living in Topeka, Kansas on May 21, 2009. She was born in Gainesville, Arkansas to William Albert and Dora Ethel (Walker) Penney. Upon the death of her mother she moved to Ohio to seek employment at the age of 15. She later moved to Detroit, Michigan and attended Beauty School. She worked at this profession for many years. In retirement, she performed this service for many relatives and friends. Penny was always willing to care for family and friends, many of whom lived in her home. She recently lived at Lexington Park Independent Living.

On February 15, 1941 she married Frank Baker. She is survived by her son, Terry (Georgia) Baker, grandson, Cary (Joanne) Baker, great-granddaughters, Christina and Michelle Baker, step-grandson's, Robert (Karen) Sdao, John (Gloria) Sdao, Glen (Susie) Sdao and step-great-grandchildren, Phillip, Eric, Anthony, Olivia, Julia, Marisa, Angelina and Frank Sdao all of Detroit, MI; her twin sister, Pauline Penney and brother, Donald (Cecile) Penney of Topeka, KS; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four sisters, Delma Penney, Elbertine White, Wilma Smith, Cleavie Herring and brother, Leavie Penney.

Services are pending in Paragould, Arkansas. Memorial contributions may be given to Midland Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Cir., Topeka, KS 66606. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is assisting the family in Topeka.
