Agnes O. Emmerson

Agnes "Taffy" Emmerson, 78, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2006 at her home after a long illness. She was born on November 20, 1927 in rural Baca County, CO, to James and Edith Downs Acre. She was one of seven children. She graduated from Springfield High School in Springfield, CO. Taffy married James "Jim" Emmerson, Jr., in 1945 in Dodge City, moving to Amarillo, TX soon after. While living in Amarillo, she was active in numerous organizations, including Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority, and the Altar guilds of St. Andrews and St. Peters Episcopal Churches. She was employed as Office Manager for Dr. L.A. Blumer for 25 years. While working for Dr. Blumer, she wrote the handbook for Insurance for Podiatry for the State of Texas. Taffy and Jim moved to Topeka in 1977 where she was employed by Dr. Charles Hepford for 25 years before retiring. While in Topeka, she was President of the Auxiliary and a volunteer at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center. She also served on the boards of Meals on Wheels, the Arthritis Foundation of NE Kansas, Topeka Symphony League and the altar guild at St. David's Episcopal Church. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral and the 21 Book Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim in 1994 and her son, Jae, in 1997. She is survived by her sister, Winona Chick of Campo, CO, her daughter, Allana Bell and husband, Don of Topeka, two grandchildren, Kimberly Jones and Donald Bell, Jr., and one great-granddaughter, Makenzie Bell all of Topeka. Mrs. Emmerson was cremated. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Care Line c/o Stormont-Vail Foundation, 1500 S.W. 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604 or Midland Hospice Care, 200 S.W. Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
