Patricia "Patti" Lynn Mathews

Patricia Lynn Mathews, 71, of Lecompton, passed away Monday, August 12, 2024 after a long battle dealing with nerve pain after multiple strokes.

She was born December 12, 1952, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Loren and Alyce (Walker) Lewis. Patti graduated from Topeka West High School in 1971. She later attended Emporia State University.

Patti dedicated 25 years of service to the Menninger Clinic as an Administrative Assistant and Office Manager of the crisis unit. Following her time at Menninger’s, she worked with the Washburn University Business Department until her retirement in 2016.

She married Russell Joseph Mathews on May 4, 1996 in Topeka, KS.

Patti had a strong faith and was a member of Morning Star Church in Lawrence. She was a proud supporter of the Family Promise program of Lawrence that helps with stability for families in a housing crisis. She and Russell served as Program Coordinators for several years as well.

In her spare time, Patti enjoyed reading, having her cat resting close by and spending time with her devoted circle of friends. She loved family gatherings that most always included a game of cards with her mother and sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Russell Mathews; two sisters, Pamela Ulibarri and Peggy (Dale) Bryan; and her beloved cat, Lexi. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Her family will greet friends and family from 4:00pm-6:00pm on Friday, August 23, 2024 at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Mount Hope Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka, KS 66604. In her honor, memorial contributions may be made to Morning Star Church, 998 N 1771 Rd, Lawrence, KS 66049 and designated to the Family Promise Program.
