Donna Jean Garner-Shughart

Donna Jean Garner-Shughart, 76, of Topeka, passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, July 4, 2024.

She was born August 30, 1947, in Lawrence, Kansas, the daughter of Harry and Minnie (Sellers) Chinn. She graduated from Lecompton High School.

Donna married William Garner on April 25, 1965 in Topeka, KS. They had four children, Anna, Tammy, James and Amy. He preceded her in passing in December of 1983. She later married Marlin Shughart on January 6, 1990.

Donna dedicated 30 years of service to Blue Cross and Blue Shield. She worked in the Control Center as an Assistant Supervisor.

Donna enjoyed being outdoors, especially spending time with her horses. She had an extensive doll collection, loved to read, and enjoyed shopping with her girls. Her passion for bowling led to her bowling on several different leagues. Donna and her family made several trips to Branson together. Her all-time favorite thing to do was spending time with her grandchildren and spending the holidays to together. Donna’s favorite holiday was the 4th of July.

She is survived by her children, Tammy (Dwayne) Davis, James Garner and Amy Garner; her grandchildren, Jason (Amanda), Dallas (Maria), Jessy, William, BreAnna (Alan), Chase (Shelli) and Emmalee (Thomas); eleven great grandchildren and her siblings, Dorothy Moore and Harry Chinn, Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marlin Shughart; daughter, Anna Lofland-Newport; one great grandchild; her parents and siblings, William Chinn, Sr., Doris Decker and Darlene Ayers.

Her family will greet relatives and friends from 6:00pm-8:00pm on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS. A funeral service will be at 11:00 am., Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Topeka Cemetery following the funeral service. In her honor, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
