Dorinda Harwick Hunt

Dorinda Ann Harwick Hunt, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 in Topeka. Dorinda is survived by her children Al (Jo) Hunt, Jordan (Julie) Hunt, Betsy (Carlin) Dornbusch; her grandchildren Emily, Kelly, Kevin, Jennifer, Natalie, Alex, and Kameron; her great granddaughters Mara and Madisynn; her cousin Jolene Strong; her brother-in-law Joe Kaster, her nephews and nieces David, Paul (Lisa), Ann (Micheal), Lynn, Christie, Dan (Tina), and Scott, and her many grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved sister, Jane.
Dorinda was born to Harry and Ann (Frazier) Harwick on June 11, 1933, in Neosho, Missouri. She graduated from high school in Columbus, Kansas and continued her education at Baker University and Kansas State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Technical Journalism. After college, Dorinda was a homemaker, raising her three children in Bartlesville, Blackwell, and Tulsa, OK, Overland Park, KS, and Naperville, IL. She eventually settled in Topeka, KS to be near family, where she worked for and retired from the Kansas Department of Agriculture.
Dorinda was a lifelong United Methodist and sang in the choir at various churches. She enjoyed reading British mysteries, watching college sports, and collecting antiques, especially Ruby Flash Souvenir Glass and Royal Family tins. She was an avid cross-stitcher of samplers, Santas, and Jayhawks for the KU grads in the family (they said “Go Cats!” on the back). She loved to travel, visiting family, sightseeing, and even boating down part of the Mississippi River with her sister and brother-in-law. She visited Australia, many countries in Europe and the Middle East, and England over a dozen times. Dorinda was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority in college and was active as an alumnus in meetings, volunteering, and bridge group. She rarely met a friend she didn’t keep and stayed in daily touch with many close friends throughout her life. But most of all Dorinda loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-granddaughters.
The family would like to thank the kindness of those at Lexington Park Health and Rehab and Cotton O’Neil Cancer Center.
Dorinda insisted she did not want a “funeral with boo-hooing” but donations in her memory can be made to Topeka First United Methodist Church 600 SW Topeka Blvd, Topeka, KS 66603.
