Madelyn Franzke

Madelyn Fleek Franzke, 96, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024.

She was born January 8, 1928, in Blair, Kansas, the daughter of Evert and Armel (Lewis) Fleek. She graduated from Topeka High School 1945 and went on to Washburn University to earn her Bachelor's Degree in 1949.

Prior to starting a family, Madelyn taught 3rd grade. Once her children were in school, she began working for American-Econoclad until her retirement.

Madelyn married Roger H. Franzke on December 18, 1948 in Topeka, KS. They had four children, Suzanne, Mark, Sally, and David.

Madelyn was a member of the Lowman United Methodist Church and served her church in many capacities as long-standing member. She was a Stephen Minister and participated in the Bible Study Fellowship. Madelyn was also a member of the Delta Gamma, Canasta Club, Bridge Club, Shawnee Country Club and the Edinburgh Neighborhood. She volunteered as a leader with the Girl Scouts of America and Midland Hospice at the Findables Store.

She was the glue of the family and made sure there was daily communication with all family members through a daily Wordle Challenge.

Madelyn leaves behind her children, Suzanne (John) F. MacDonald, Mark (Jill Westra) E. Franzke and Sally (James) A. Dodd; her grandchildren, Tyler (Kathy) Jones, Michael (Nia) Jones, Timothy (Alyssa) Franzke, Mark (Holly) Dodd, Megan Dodd, Sarah Dodd, Paige Dodd, Allie Dodd, David (Kelsey) Franzke, and Sidney (Austin) Doty; daughter in-law, Sheryl Franzke-Doole and granddaughter in-law, Emily Parker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Franzke; son, David R. Franzke; grandson, Christopher Franzke and her parents.

The family would like to thank the staff of Homestead of Topeka and Ascend Hospice for their loving care.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604. Memorial contributions may be made to the Roger & David Franzke Memorial Fund for Youth, 5431 SW 29th St., Suite 300, Topeka, KS 66614.
