John Davis Haynes, 74, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Brewster Place Health Center.

He was born on February 9, 1950 in Topeka, Kansas to John Shepard Haynes and Catherine Mae (Davis) Haynes. He graduated from Topeka High School and Washburn University.

He retired from Union Pacific as a Locomotive Engineer in 2010. He was married to Carole D. Shell on October 12, 1984. He was a loving husband and provider for his wife and their kitty Daisy. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and canoeing on the Kansas River with his friend Mark in his younger years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, step daughter; Tammy Vardys and her husband Tony Vardys.

John is survived by his wife; Carole, step grandson Dillion (Courtney) Vardys and their children; Cambree and Austin James, step granddaughter; Hallie Vardys and her children Bentley, Anthony and Wyatt, his life long best friend; Mark (Lisa) Evanhoe.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Mount Hope Cemetery Chapel, with visitation will be from 10:00am until 11:00am. prior to service time.

Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Town and Country Christian Church, 4925 SW 29th Street, Topeka, Kansas 66614.
