Leland Eugene Kling, 74, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024.
He was born December 30, 1949, in Holton, Kansas, the son of Francis "Barney" and Mildred (Sproul) Kling. He was a graduate of Soldier High School and received a bachelor's degree in business from Washburn University and an accounting degree from Washburn University.
Leland was employed by the Security Benefit for 25 years, retiring in 2005.
He was a member of Shawnee Heights Methodist Church.
Leland married Deborah "Debbi" Jo Kling on February 12, 1983 in Topeka, Kansas. She survives in Topeka. Other survivors three children, Bryan Fitzhugh of Junction City, KS, Vicki Fitzhugh of Topeka and Lynn Stanley of Tulsa, OK; four grandchildren, Lauren Lillard, Malcolm Boyd, Madison Armstrong, Ashleigh Fitzhugh; and 3 great-grandchildren Kendrick Searcie, Naomi Boyd , Emerson Searcie. Niece Kristan Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Shai Boyd; a great-grandson, Ezra Boyd; and his brother, Gale Kling; his beloved fur babies Gizmo,Toby, BigBoy.
Leland enjoyed watching his mighty KU Jayhawks and Washburn Ichabods. His yard was his pride and joy. He loved working outside.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Prairie Home Cemetery, Topeka.
