Mireya Ann Keck, 8, of Wakarusa, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.
She was born December 6, 2015, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Daniel and Kathleen (Perron) Keck. Her adoption was finalized on October 9, 2019 in honor of her Grandpa Perron's birthday.
Mireya had a wonderful team from Farley Elementary that provided in-home school and needed therapies. She also loved her therapist at the Capper Foundation. She attended Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene. She received great joy from her involvement with the Medical Warrior program at the Kansas Discovery Center. She had amazing care from so many special nurses, too many to count, but some that will never be forgotten!
Survivors include her parents, Dan and Kathy Keck; four siblings, Jacob Perron, Jesse Bedford, Emily Keck, and Lucas Keck; Grandma Perron-Doty, Uncle Bob (Lisa), Aunt Connie, Uncle Leo (Kari) Aunt Kathy, Uncle Tim (Jessica) and Aunt Debbie (Bill) and cousins galore. In addition, her biological father, Ramiro Retana and his family. Mireya was surrounded by her love coalition.
She was preceded in death by her infant sister, Josie Ann Keck.
Mireya was a fashionista. She always had her hair, fingernails and toenails done, matching bows, glasses and shoes. She enjoyed listening to music, her party light, Pete the Cat, Pierre the Penguin, signing songs with mom, playing jokes on people by intentionally setting off her monitors, dancing with daddy, doing crafts and reading books with sister, silly sounds with her brother and solos he would sing to her when he thought no one was watching, playing with all her switch adaptive toys, especially those with lights and music, hearing her brother Jacob laugh and snuggle time with him, her musical clocks that chimed a song at every hour, bath (spa) days, getting her fingernails and toenails painted, visits to the zoo, TARC park, Kansas Discovery Center for play dates, advocating at the Capital with her mom, playing games and hanging out with her cousins, and family vacations. Her favorite trip was her Make a Wish trip to Disney and meeting all her favorite princesses and visiting the ocean.
Mireyas life was short due to heart breaking circumstances but those events were the inspiration for Mireya's Law. Mireya captivated everyone she met with her smile that could light up the entire night sky. Her belly laugh, which made her whole body jiggle, could brighten anyone's day.
Visitation will be 5-7pm Friday, February 2, 2024 at Fairlawn Church of the Nazarene, 730 SW Fairlawn Rd, Topeka. Funeral services will be 10 am Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kathy or Dan Keck in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, KS 66604. Plans are being developed to provide resources and assistance to families of other special angels to memorialize Miracle Mireya.
